Hi this is Judy Sack, I love the pictures that my grandchildren have been sending me of my great-grandchildren. I sit and I look at them and it's just such a pleasant time to watch these; to see these pictures and to see the kids and how they grow from day-to-day and week-to-week. It's really a wonderful program that you have and I just love it. So thank you. Very happy and proud great-grandmother.

Grandma Cook, Alex, and a giant chocolate bar.
I’m Alex Cook and together with my brother Andy, we built NanaGram as a gift for our late grandfather Tirrell Cook (Grandpa to us) for his 94th birthday.
Celebrating Grandpa Cook's 94th birthday
When Grandpa stopped driving at 93, I started making more of an effort to visit. It started with errands to the grocery store and bank and quickly morphed into adventures with Grandpa. After breakfast or errands, Grandpa would detour me all around Boston’s South Shore to talk history, geneology and marvel at everything, big and small. One year around the holidays it had been a while since he had a hair cut. I took him to the barber and afterwards he unexpectedly shared his excitement in the car!
As Grandpa grew older, the blood thinning medication he was on made it too dangerous for him to shave. He had no choice to but to grow a beard. Arthritis in his hands made it difficult for him to hold a beard trimmer. One day my mom called and asked me to go over and help him get cleaned up. I became his "barber" — hands-down the most rewarding title of my lifetime.
Grandpa and Grandma Cook lived in their home together for over 60 years. Over the years, my siblings and I would visit our grandparents as often as possible. Grandma and Grandpa loved going through videos and photos on our phones. We tried countless times to set them up with computers, iPads, and other screens but nothing stuck. If we had the time, sometimes we’d send a batch of photos to print a local 1-hour photo but it was challenging to be consistent. So often when we’d go home, our photos and videos went with us.
Grandpa loved lobster rolls.
At Grandpa Cook’s 94th birthday, I bought a couple twin live lobsters (Grandpa loved his lobster rolls) thinking there’s no way any of my siblings could top my gift. Sure enough, my brother Andy unveiled a prototype for a text-to-print service he started building the night before. When Andy asked me to help him finish building it, I instantly said "Hell yes!" We decided to name the product NanaGram, after our our mom (Nana) and our grandmother: An ode to the telegram and her career in the communication industry as a life telephone operator. A few weeks later NanaGram blew up on Reddit. Now thousands of NanaGrammers are delivering photos to hundreds of grandparents across the the world every month. Our regular photo deliveries spark an increase in phone calls and visits, bringing families closer together. In the words of Grandpa Cook, “Isn’t that wonderful!”
